This February marks 30 years since I began my initial TCM studies. I can hardly believe it’s been three decades since I embarked on this incredible journey into the world of Chinese medicine. From the early days of learning the fundamentals to now, it’s been a path filled with growth, discovery, and countless rewarding experiences.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed significant changes in the industry. In 1995, the only place in NSW to study Chinese medicine as a complete system was the Sydney College of TCM (now SITCM). Now, multiple universities and private institutes offer undergraduate degrees, Master’s, PhDs, and postdoctoral research programs. The profession of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine became nationally regulated in 2012. The focus on holistic health and wellness has also gained widespread recognition, leading to a greater appreciation for the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine.
My journey has taken me far and wide – from an internship in China to working in a herb dispensary in London, completing a master’s degree, and more recently, retraining into a classical style of herbal medicine. I established Australia’s first GMP licensed herbal medicine dispensary and have had clinics in Darlinghurst, North Sydney, Orange, and Bathurst.
Each experience has enriched my understanding and deepened my passion for this incredible field. And it’s far from over. It really is humbling to be somewhere on the side of this enormous mountain, with no view of the summit. But regardless, we keep pushing higher and higher.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way – my teachers, colleagues, and patients. Your guidance and trust have been invaluable.
Here’s to many more years of healing and learning!
